Smile Designing at Gelos Dentistry

Digital Smile Design with 5D Intraoral Scanner

Most people know the feeling of sitting in a dental chair and thinking, “I hope this turns out the way I’m imagining.” Digital Smile Design changes that completely.

At Gelos Dentistry, our Digital Smile Design (DSD) workflow, powered by a 5D intraoral scanner, allows you to see a realistic preview of your future smile before any major treatment begins. Whether you’re considering veneers, crowns and bridges, Invisalign aligners or a complete smile makeover, we design your new smile on‑screen first then bring it to life step by step.

Our clinic in Tricity use this technology to plan smiles that look natural on your face, feel comfortable when you bite and last in everyday life.

What Is Digital Smile Design?

Digital Smile Design is a modern way of planning cosmetic and restorative dentistry. Instead of looking only at individual teeth, we look at your entire face – lips, gums, teeth, smile line and personality – and design a smile that suits you.

Using high‑quality photos, videos and scans, we:

The goal is simple: to create a smile that feels like a better version of you, not a set of identical “Hollywood teeth” that don’t match your face.

What Is a 5D Intraoral Scanner?

Traditional dental impressions involve trays filled with gooey material that many patients dislike. A 5D intraoral scanner replaces all of that with a small, comfortable wand that takes thousands of images per second to create a detailed 3D model of your teeth and gums.

The “5D” part comes from the scanner’s ability to capture:

In practical terms, that means:

This scanner is seamlessly integrated with aligner systems like Invisalign and with digital smile design software, making it a powerful foundation for modern treatment planning.aligntech+1

Why Gelos Dentistry Uses Digital Smile Design

Future Smile at Gelos Dentistry

See Your Future Smile Before You Commit

Many patients feel nervous about veneers, crowns or orthodontic treatment because they can’t fully picture the end result. With Digital Smile Design, we can show you:
This preview gives you a voice in the design process and makes decision‑making much easier.

Planning Backwards from the End Result

Instead of working tooth‑by‑tooth, we plan everything backwards from the final smile we want to achieve. Once that is digitally defined, we decide:
This “end‑in‑mind” approach reduces guesswork and helps different treatments fit together smoothly.

Technology with a Human Touch

Digital tools are only as good as the people using them. At Gelos Dentistry, the focus is on listening first: what kind of smile do you like – natural, glamorous, subtle, bold? Do you show more upper teeth or lower teeth when you smile? Are there features you love and don’t want to lose?

The 5D scanner, photos and software then help translate that conversation into a plan that is both technically sound and personally meaningful.

Your Digital Smile Design Journey at Gelos Dentistry

5D Intraoral Scanner at Gelos Dentistry

Smile Consultation and Photographs

We begin with a relaxed conversation about your smile:
We then take a series of high‑quality photographs and short video clips of your smile from different angles – speaking, laughing, smiling naturally and smiling wide.

5D Intraoral Scan

Next comes the 5D intraoral scan. A small scanning wand is gently moved over your teeth and gums. Within a couple of minutes, we have a detailed, colour 3D model of your mouth on screen.
This scan is much more comfortable than old impressions and gives us detailed information about your tooth surfaces, bite and contact points.

Digital Analysis and Smile Design

Using specialised software, we combine your photos, video and 3D scan to analyse:
We then design a proposed new smile – adjusting length, width, contours and alignment of teeth. This becomes the blueprint for possible treatments such as veneers, crowns, aligners, bonding, gum reshaping or implants.

Showing You the Proposed Smile

One of the most exciting parts of DSD is seeing your potential smile on‑screen. We walk you through:
You are encouraged to share your honest reactions. This is your smile, and your feedback matters.

Creating a Personalised Treatment Plan

Once we’ve agreed on a smile design, we create a step‑by‑step plan. This might include:
Because the design is already mapped out digitally, each step works towards the same final picture rather than being done in isolation.

Trial Smile (Optional Where Applicable)

In some cases, we can create a “mock‑up” or trial smile – either digitally or as a temporary layer placed on your teeth – so you can physically see and feel how the new shapes look in your mouth before proceeding with permanent work. This adds another level of confidence and control for you.

Final Smile and Maintenance

Once the planned treatments are completed, we compare your final photos with your original Digital Smile Design. You’ll receive guidance on how to maintain your new smile with home care, regular cleanings and, when aligners are involved, retainers.

Benefits of Digital Smile Design with 5D Intraoral Scanner

Clarity and Confidence

Instead of trying to imagine how your teeth will look after treatment, you can see a realistic preview and ask for adjustments before anything irreversible is done. This reduces anxiety and helps you feel confident about your choices.

Precision and Predictability

High‑resolution 3D scans combined with photos and videos allow more precise planning. That means:

Comfort and Convenience

The 5D scanner eliminates messy impressions and usually captures a full arch in about a minute. Most patients find it much more comfortable and appreciate seeing their scans immediately on the screen.

Holistic, Face‑Driven Dentistry

Digital Smile Design is not just about white teeth; it’s about harmony. The software helps us design teeth that fit your facial proportions, age and personality. Subtle changes in tooth length or width can make a big difference in how relaxed and natural your smile looks.

Digital Smile Design & Other Treatments

Digital Smile Design at Gelos Dentistry often works hand‑in‑hand with:
By planning all of these through the same digital lens, we reduce the risk of mismatch between different treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions About Digital Smile Design

No. While veneers are a common part of many smile makeovers, DSD is a planning tool rather than a specific treatment. It can be used to plan veneers, crowns, aligners, implants, gum reshaping or combinations of these – whatever is best for your situation.
The initial consultation, photographs and 5D scan are usually done in a single visit. Creating and finalising the digital design may take a few days. Once we review it together and agree on a plan, the actual treatment timeline will depend on what procedures are involved.
Most people find it very comfortable. There are no trays, no impression material and very little chance of gagging. The scanner wand is small and moves gently around your mouth for a short time.
DSD adds some planning cost at the beginning, but it often saves time and adjustments later because the end result is clearer from the start. During your consultation, we’ll provide an estimate, explain what is included and map out options to suit different budgets.
That depends on what you want – some people like a very bright, “red‑carpet” smile, while others prefer a softer, natural look. Our default approach is to design smiles that match your face, skin tone and personality. You’ll see and approve the design before we do anything irreversible.
